Industry Associations

Several industry associations represent the vested interests of stakeholders in Ontario’s water innovation ecosystem. Their activities tend to focus on sharing knowledge, building networks, continuing professional education, and advocating for collective member interests. Many associations hold regular events and conferences, as well as publish regular journals and newsletters.

Here are some of the associations currently serving Ontario’s professional concerns related to water:

Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO)
Consulting Engineers of Ontario is the recognized voice of consulting engineering in Ontario. It is a not-for-profit, member-governed association representing consulting engineering firms in Ontario. This association’s mission is to actively promote the business and professional interests of its members to clients, regulators and the public.

Ontario Environment Industry Association (ONEIA)
ONEIA is the business association representing the interests of the environment industry in Ontario.

Ontario Municipal Water Association (OMWA)
OMWA’s mission is to act as the voice of Ontario’s public water supply authorities and their customers on policy, legislative, and regulatory issues related to the provision of safe and reliable public water supply in Ontario. This association’s focus is the management and administration of public drinking water and its membership is made up of public water supply authorities.

Ontario Sewer & Watermain Construction Association (OSWCA)
The OSWCA has been representing sewer and watermain construction contractors across the province for more than 35 years, and currently serves more than 700 member companies. Their concerns include water system management, the environment, safety, contract terms, engineering and many other issues relevant to the sewer and watermain construction industry.

Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA)
The Ontario Water Works Association is an organization of water professionals, dedicated to protecting public health through the delivery of safe, sufficient and sustainable drinking water in Ontario. OWWA has more than 1,100 members representing research scientists, engineers, chemists, hydrogeologists, managers and technicians employed by Ontario’s municipal water systems.

Ontario Water Works Equipment Association (OWWEA)
Through the direction and strong support of its members, OWWEA works closely in conjunction with the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA), the Ontario Municipal Water Association (OMWA) and the Regional Water Works Conferences to provide technical resources and representation.

Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO)
WEAO represents the concerns of Ontario’s water environment. From preservation and innovation to building long-lasting industry relationships, the association has 1,300 technical and professional individuals as members. WEAO organizes industry conferences, workshops, and seminars, publishes an industry-leading water and environmental magazine, and seeks to engage youth with the aim of bringing students together who share an interest about water environment.
