John Braam recently retired after 37 years of professional services in engineering consulting, private sector industry, public utilities, and infrastructure.
For more than 31 years, he worked with various municipalities and completed his career as the Managing Director of Environmental and Engineering Services and the City Engineer at the City of London and the CAO for the Lake Huron and Elgin Area Regional Water Supply systems. Mr. Braam graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1980 with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Mr. Braam is a versatile public works manager with extensive technical and managerial experience in water, water resources, wastewater, solid waste and transportation services. He has a results-oriented approach that is focused on customer service and cost-effective delivery of services achieved through strategic initiatives and effective risk-based implementation.
He has significant experience in operations and optimization of municipal services through research, automation, and the appropriate use of private and public sector resources. He is a strong team player with a sense of humour, and is very comfortable in dealing with all levels of staff, the public, and elected officials.
Mr. Braam has been extensively involved with the Ontario Water Works Association and received the Norman J. Howard Award for his dedication and leadership in the water industry. He was also a long-standing member of the Water Environment Association of Ontario, Municipal Engineers Association, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers, the Regional Public Works Commissioners of Ontario, and continues as a member in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario.
Most recently John was presented with the George Warren Fuller Award by the American Water Works Association. This award honours distinguished service to the water supply field in commemoration of sound engineering skill, brilliant diplomatic talent, and constructive leadership.Return to Board of Directors
