Since 2006, Helge Daebel, Dr. sc. techn., has been responsible for the water sector within Emerald Technology Ventures – a globally recognized brand for venture investments in energy, water, materials and industrial IT – defining strategy, driving investment processes and supporting portfolio companies.
His past and present involvements in this role include: board director at Optimatics (software for advanced infrastructure planning, acquired by SUEZ) and Pure Technologies (structural monitoring of pipe infrastructure, acquired by Xylem), advisor and board observer to inge watertechnologies (UF membrane products, acquired by BASF), AquaSpy (irrigation monitoring), HydroPoint Data Systems (commercial landscape irrigation control), the Pressure Pipe Inspection Company and TaKaDu (pioneer in smart water grids).
Involvement in industrial alliances & activities: Initial member of the Smart Water Networks Forum (SWAN), Advisory board member of EU research project DEMEAU, Advisor to the World Water-Tech Innovation Summit and the Singapore TechXchange and past chairman of the selection committee of the Swiss Bluetec Bridge.
Prior to joining Emerald, Dr. Daebel conducted research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (eawag) in the Environmental Engineering Division. He also worked at the German Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute and participated in various water projects in South America.
Dr. Daebel holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. PhD Thesis: Parameter Uncertainties in modelling urban wastewater systems.
He speaks fluently German, English and Spanish and has elementary skills in French.Return to Board of Directors
